The owners of Laurel Hardware and Ysabel, Vella Group and Barney’s Beanery have joined forces to develop a mixed-use apartment, hotel and retail project at the site of Barney’s Beanery at 8447 Santa Monica Boulevard. Design of the project is being handled by MAD Architects, also currently designing the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The mixed-use project will have a similar futuristic look with curvilinear elements, water features and expansive views. The current proposal includes an 88-room hotel, 45 apartment units and three restaurants including Barney’s Beanery, and will retain the original Barney’s facade. There will also be an 80-seat music venue, retail shops, as well as an underground recording studio and five levels of subterranean parking. A public plaza connecting to Veteran’s Park will be located at Olive and Santa Monica Boulevard. The project was recently presented at a neighborhood meeting prior to an official submission to the City of West Hollywood and a formal approval process by the Planning Commission.
